Waiting for Baby

This is the day Baby Weich is to appear. His parents are off to the Hospital and the induction will begin. This is grandchild #9 for us. Each one is as exciting as the next.

As we anticipate the arrival, it is hard to imagine him at 5 and 10 and wonder how he will fit in with the other grandkids. What color eyes will he have? And how big will he be? (My guess is 8.6 lbs) When will he be old enough to come to Camp Grandma? Time will tell.

Until then, we will remember what little boys are made of; snips and snails and puppy dog tails.

What are little boys made of?

Will this be the day Grandchild number 9 arrives? Last night we learned Lindsey was in the hospital. Later we learned it was not to be last night, this morning we wake up with anticipation of the little guys arrival. I am very excited, but sad that we won't be there when he arrives. As a grandparent it is difficult to know what your role is in the very beginning. When I was a new mom I wasn't one to want my Mom in the delivery room. My Mom always respected our wishes at that time. I would like to do the same.

Back to the little guy, we have waited a long time for his arrival, we wonder where he will fit in with the mix. This is our third grandson, and probably not our last. Tavian and Tate have set the bar high for sweet grandson's. Tavian already did Camp Grandma at age 5. Tate likes to walk around the house as I talk to him on the phone pointing things out. He hasn't quite mastered talking yet, but I get the feeling it isn't too far away.

As we prepare for the arrival I am reminded of the poem

We need a little Christmas!

We need a little Christmas, right this very minute! We need a little Christmas now...I have heard that Christmas song about 20 times this Christmas season, I like it. But what does it mean? I think it means we need to live the Christmas spirit year around, when things are in the doldrums, we need a bit of good will and good cheer. And it isn't that we need to get the good will, we need to spread it; then comes the good cheer.

Let's spread a little Christmas today. What is one thing you can do today to make someone's day? The opportunity will present itself, and when it does, give someone a little Christmas right that very minute. Happy Holiday season.

Mornings are fantastic! I find that early mornings can really set the tone for the day for me. When I have a few minutes to sit down and enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee, my day seems to sail along smoothly. When I am rushing around, wondering where my car keys are...little disasters seem to pop up here and there through-out the morning. As I think about it, maybe they are popping up every day, I just can handle them better when I have set my attitude straight with a nice hot cup of coffee!

Countdown to Baby!

Today we are most likely within 3 weeks of having a new grandchild. The count down begins and the phone is kept close by. As I anticipate the arrival, I can't help but reflect on what this young man might be like. Will he have the wonderful personality of his sister? The easy going attitude of his father? The drive of his mother? Only time will tell. For the time being, we wait for the newest member of the family to arrive, the next little camper for Camp Grandma!

Stop the Violence and Fear

Once again, I read in the paper about a domestic violence dispute. I can imagine the great fear the three that were confronted felt. They all survived, the abuser did not in this case. Now they will all live with the pain of what they have seen. We need to stop the Violence and Fear. We need to teach young people it's not okay to threaten in any way. We need to teach them to back away when they feel the anger coming on.

This not just about young women, this affects all ages. The person that was threatened on this day was in her 60's. Let's learn to leave, let's learn to reach out to those that need it and break the silence.

Today let's talk about it. We have lost enough lives.

The last day of Thanksgiving Weekend

It will be very quiet in our house again. All of the company will leave at once, then there will be silence. Some of the highlights of the weekend were the race/walk through Irvine Park. Ok, it was really just Brianna, Bridget and I trying to get through the Christmas lights in the park as quickly as possible because we were freezing! Playing Old Maid and Memory was a great time, and I really enjoyed Black Friday Shopping with Beth, Brianna and Bridget. We had some great food, some great laughs and enjoyed the weekend.

Back to that silence, it will be lonely, but we settle into our busy life and don't even notice it until the next time the company leaves.

The grandkids arrived safely last night. The turkey is stuffed and in the oven. Most of the meal is prepared, now just enjoying some fun. I think it is time to make some paper turkeys.

As we prepare for our final day of the work week, we wait in anticipation of the kids and our grandchildren arriving safely. I am very thankful that they will attempt the drive, but I also would like them to err on the side of caution. Though we desperately want them to visit, the thought of trouble on the roads is hard to put aside.

As the day goes on I will think of ways to entertain and interact with the grandchildren I don't see enough. I am thinking of Christmas Card making and hiking to the park (it's less than 1/2 a block), a trip to Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls for the stroll through the Christmas lights and I think we can find some time for hot chocolate and marshmallows!

I love the Thanksgiving Holiday and I am looking forward to sharing it with 4 of our grandchildren,

Its Thanksgiving week! I do love Thanksgiving, I think many women especially appreciate this holiday. No stress to buy gifts, we can make it as big or as small as we want. I have such great memories of my childhood going to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving. All of the cousins that lived close were there. It certainly meant a day of great food, some games and lots of talking. Sometimes everyone was talking at once. Usually everyone was talking at once.
This Thanksgiving if the weather holds we will have 4 of our 8 grandchildren making their way over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house. The kids will be here 4 nights and I need a plan for some fun activities to keep them busy, keep them out of trouble and most of all to create some memories for them. The pressure is on, just 3 days to prepare. I know we will be drawing our hands and making turkeys out of them. I am will be coming up with some outdoor activities in the next days. Gobble Gobble.
